Early Intervention and Prevention

Often times, the beginning stages of behavioral and emotional problems can become apparent in the lives of very young children.

The long-term impact of leaving these issues unaddressed can be profound in the lives of children.  Just as profound is the potential for good that results from early intervention.  Study after study shows that taking positive steps in these early years pays the large dividends in terms of healthier children, better school performance and lower overall costs to society

Family Networks’ therapeutic preschool and parent education program provides children and parents with information, support and opportunities to practice new skills needed to help them grow and thrive.  This service helps parents learn and practice more effective parenting skills and helps children make gains in emotional and social development.

The program is offered at Family Networks’ Brooklyn Park location and serves families with children ages birth to six who reside in northwest Hennepin County and North Minneapolis.  Participants are families experiencing stress, crisis, abuse/neglect or difficulty in parent-child relationships.  Services include a therapeutic preschool, parent education and support groups, in-home visits, case management services and coordination with other community services and resources.

Key Outcomes:

bullet

Parents learn and practice the skills necessary to provide a safe, stable and nurturing environment for their children.

bullet

Children learn and practice more effective coping skills, social skills and demonstrate a stronger, more positive sense of self.
